The 5 Best Nike Air Max Models of All-Time

Nike Air Max

It seems like they’ve been around forever…one of the best, most popular, most effective, and yes, most expensive, brand of athletic shoes the world has ever known. Many have tried to compete, and while they may have given the super-company something of a run for their money, the truth is that no other brand could ever surpass the quality and stratospheric brand name that seems to have ruled the world athletic shoes since they began. Formerly the Blue Ribbon Sports Company from 1964 to 1971, the company changed its name in May of the same year to Nike, Inc., the name ‘Nike’ being representative of Nike (pronounced ‘Ni-kee’), the Greek goddess of victory. For years, Nike, Inc. has designed and manufactured some of the best sports shoes, equipment, and other gear, and became a household name decades ago, seemingly without even trying. From the Air Jordan series to the Air Max model and beyond, Nike continues to produce some of the most sought after shoes on the market today, in both sports and in the fashion world.

As a result of their productivity, the quality of their products, and their renown, we have decided to bring to you a list of the five best Nike Air Max 270 models of all time. Now, the Nike Air Max 270 is a part of a line of shoes called ‘Nike Air Max’ that was first released in 1987. They are best recognized by gel-filled pressurized pouches situated in the midsole of the shoe which provide a soft cushion to the underside of the foot. A stylish, comfortable, and preferred shoe, the Nike Air Max 270 has offered many versions over the years. Below we offer five of the best Nike Air Max 270s there are on the planet. We list them from number five to number one, with number one being our pick for the very, very best. So, if you’re a collector, a new win-over, or simply want to know a little bit more about this shoe than you already do, read on and discover the information you want to know.

Nike Air Max 270 React

The React is known for its incredible comfort level, which has been described as feeling like a cross between the Air Max 720 and 270. But the main complaint with this particular model is Nike’s use of materials in the shoe’s construction. As it turns out, said materials have been chosen for use as a tribute to Nike models of the past, and one of the materials happens to be felt, which doesn’t go over well with some wearers. Otherwise, the price is right, ranging from around $80 into the hundreds, and they come in a variety of colors. We felt comfortable giving React the number five position.

Nike Air Max 270 SE Reflective

Our choice for number five today is the Nike Air Max 270 SE Reflective, a shoe which we consider to be one of the best of the model, but due to the less-than-raving reviews of some, must list it at number five. The shoe offers a fit that is snug and comfortable, and thanks to a handy tongue-tab it is easy to put on and take off. It has a lot of great points when it comes to the construction of the shoe and the materials, from comfort to firmness and stability. But according to RunRepeat, many who bought and used this model found the shoe to be a bit too narrow for their taste, and they stated that the underfoot cushion caused the foot to slide down toward the front, which ultimately caused for ‘dis’-comfort. These can run you as much as over $400 and as little as $130. Overall however, there were more high points than low, and the Nike Air Max 20 SE Reflective earns a spot at number five.

Nike Air Max 270 Flyknit

At number four is the Nike Air Max 270 Flyknit, which featured not only a heel air unit, but the biggest one in any shoe in its class. It was modern-looking, almost space-aged, with an attractive streamlined look and enough color options to attract anyone. The shoe’s upper is actually constructed of Flyknit, which is called ‘ultra-breathable’, and helps to keep the feet cool during wear. Prices for the model can range from around $80 to upwards of $200 or more. We chose the Flyknit for the number four spot due to its abundant cushioning and dual-density supports, strengthening leather overlays, and the way mid-foot lockdown is supplied and perfected through the function of the flywire cables in the shoe. All of these things and more spell out many benefits, and the shoe looks good to boot, for lack of a better term.

2. Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin

According to Business Insider, the Air Max 270 Bowfin earned four out of five stars due to its incredible level of support, not to mention the fact that they are one durable shoe. While these are indeed characteristics which are highly sought after when it comes to athletic shoes, many owners claimed they seem to run small, so there was a bit of documented trouble in this area; unfortunately, it’s a pretty important area…shoes need to fit right. But this hasn’t seemed to take away from their popularity, and steady users simply adjust their size when making a purchase and go on to enjoy that support and strength the shoe is known for. You can expect to pay at least $100 for a new pair, and likely much more, depending on the vendor, but it earns it’s number two spot easily, high price or not.

1. Nike Air Max 270

Finally, at the number one spot, and that by more than just principle, the Nike Air Max 270. This is the base shoe for the model, and all those that came from it owe it in many ways. It is the epitome of comfort and support, and when you top that off with the style of the shoe and the variety of colors available, well, you just can’t beat it. While there are always low points that come to light in various reviews, the fact remains that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. Price-wise you can expect to spend between $100 and $150 (sometimes more) depending on whether you are purchasing men’s or women’s, and this makes the deal even better. For all these reasons, the Nike Air Max 270 comes in at number one on our list.

There you have them: our picks for the five best Nike Air Max 270 models of all-time. As you can see, all these versions have their pros and their cons, including the original. But it seems to us that is all the more reason to go back to basics and stick to the roots when it comes to this particular models shoe. Nike knows what they’re doing though…that much can mostly be counted on. And with that being said, find the pair right for you and enjoy giving them a good workout…while they give you a comfortable one. Have fun while you run!
