A Closer Look at the 2020 Malibu Wakesetter 23 MXZ

2020 Malibu Wakesetter

Try to find a boat brand that offers premium levels of luxury, quality, and performance and you might be in for an onerous task. From the brands’ perspective, it is easy to understand why they decided to narrow in on providing one particular service. Once you occupy a certain niche in the market, it becomes easier to be the best at that particular thing, because you converge all your energy and resources into being at the acme of that particular thing. With this in mind, it becomes difficult to understand the philosophy that governs Malibu boats as a brand. Not only has Malibu managed to become one of the biggest boat manufacturers in the United States since its inception in 1982, but it has also done so by occupying the apogee in almost all sectors of boat production.

That being said, even the best has its best attributes. Malibu’s notoriety in the quality of water sporting boats it has been producing for the last couple of years has deluged the world over. Anywhere there is either a waterboarding or water-skiing event, you will not lack an abundance in Malibu’s boats. The latest model Malibu has released for its water sports line, the 2020 Wakesetter 23 MXZ, epitomizes the dogma that has driven the brand since it began. Anyone, form the waterboarding dilettante to the seasoned aficionado, will find different features on the boat that are tailor suited for their level of experience. Here are ten things you might not have known about the 2020 Malibu Wakesetter 23 MXZ.

1. Dimensions and specs

The boat has a length overall of 23 feet, and the beam length is 102 inches. It has a dry weight of 5400 pounds and can accommodate up to 16 people. Its fuel capacity is 58 gallons, and the ballast capacity is 3170 pounds.

2. Design

A recurring them with Malibu as a brand is that it never seems to ride the same wave that other boat makers are following, no pun intended. Almost all models being released by other boat manufacturers have a straight stem boat, but Malibu boats have always had a pickle-fork design. Consequently, this gives the bow a more spacious feel to those seating on that part. The contouring that the designers at Malibu decided to employ on the 23 MXZ work in tandem to provide the streamlined shape that is compulsory to all the boats, while also giving the watercraft a chicness and elegance you would only expect in yachts.

3. The bow

The pickle-fork bow, as stated earlier, makes the bow spacious enough for multiple people to relax and enjoy the ride. The presence of multiple cup holders and cell phone slots located strategically around the bow increase the comfort levels of the passenger’s experience.

4. The Helm

For the 2020 model, Malibu has switched up their regular helm station set up a little bit. The display screen that was located on the right-hand side of the steering wheel is now on the left, making it easier to control your lighting, music, and other features. The control switches for the surf gate and the command dial are on the left-hand side.

5. Wakeboarding

The center display, a 7-inch touchscreen platform, takes center stage when setting up your wakeboarding endeavors. It is pretty easy to move about in the settings. You can change the direction on which you want to surf, you can change your wedge form still to lift and everything in-between, and you can control the ballast weight distribution throughout the boat. Once you decide to change the direction of the wake and the wave, the 23 MXZ has an elaborate system to make sure the surfer is notified of the change. Once you select the direction you want, the horn blows thrice and then the transfer happens.

6. The engine

At the helm, you will be in full control of the new Malibu Monsoon engine that comes in two options, either the M5Di or M6Di. Either of them provides you with all the power you would need for your sporting activities or just cruising around the open water. Another plus for the engine is that even though it is in charge of power provision for such a big boat, it is very quiet and clean, leaving you with a sweet serenading ambiance.

7. Cockpit

The cockpit seating area, as you’d expect with any Malibu model, is not only comfortable, but it also accentuates the subtle poise going on all around the boat. This is in addition to fulfilling its raison d’être of providing sufficient space to accommodate you, your friends, or your family. All the seats are customizable, with pop up backrests on boat sides, meaning you can change your seating direction to face aft. The seat at the back is actually a convertible bench. You can slide it into the middle of the cabin and slide the backrest up to make an aft seating bench. You can also flip the backrest even further backward, hence making it into a tabletop for placing your food and drinks.

8. Storage

Irrespective of the model or brand, it is only logical to provide storage that suffices the needs of the people on board. Malibu has met these requirements by creating storage spaces underneath every single seat in the cockpit. Further storage space can be located at the rear of the boat or underneath the headrest of the bow’s seats. This gives you all the storage you would need for your surfing and wakeboarding equipment, your necessities and then some.

9. Additional options

Even though the standard version of the boat provides everything you would need, you can still add a plethora of other features to accentuate the luxury of the boat and the comfort you experience when riding it. They include armrests for the forward-facing seats at the bow and the GX tower.

10. Price

Considering the premium features you get, the 138,806 price tag attached to the boat seems like a true bargain. The price might increase when you add some of the optional features, but the change is nuanced.
