Capitalising on excess
The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation plans to use the fraction of the plastic generated in its locales and turn it into fuel, hoping to ease some of its waste management burden.

Successful production
In an earlier trial, the municipal corporation managed to produce 85 litres of fuel from waste, which has led to them applying to make the process mainstream.

While the trail has been successful, the corporation is in the process of figuring out if the fuel can be used to run vehicles. Meanwhile, estimates have shown that one tonne of plastic can be turned into a litre of fuel.

Now, the KDMC is waiting for the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to sign off on the project, which will contribute to the Corporation’s zero-waste plans.
