Mumbai: Online payment company PhonePe is planning to fill in 700 open job positions in the next 3-6 months in line with its business growth led by the accelerated adoption of digital payments across the country post the Covid 19 pandemic.
“We have over 700 open positions which we aim to fill…we are hiring across functions in line with our business strategy and needs,” said Manmeet Sandhu, Chief People Officer, PhonePe. “In addition to this, we will be looking to expand our rural network which will involve leveraging locally available talent to service this network,” she added. “We are still in the process of closing out the numbers for next year, but our growth trajectory will likely continue at the same rate,” she said in an interaction with ET.
The new hires will be across a variety of roles in engineering and non-engineering functions such as business development, product management, merchant acquisition, marketing, finance, legal etc.
Despite the pandemic imposed lockdown, the company has hired 500 people across roles since the end of February taking its total employee strength to 2,200.
“During the lockdown, we have had employees joining us remotely and their induction and onboarding were done virtually without any hitch,” said Sandhu.
The company earlier announced plans to expand its offline merchant network to 25 million by the end of 2021 from the current 13 million across rural and semi-urban areas.
“This will involve creation of 10,000 jobs across 5,500 talukas wherein people will be hired from the locally available talent pool to service our merchants’ network,” said Sandhu.
The pandemic has led to the volume of digital payments growing exponentially since June with growth coming from across the country including the tier-2, 3 cities and rural areas as people are more willing to use payment modes that can be operated remotely.
“With increased value creation in the fintech sector and consequently the increased opportunities we see there is a need for people in a variety of roles,” said Sandhu.
