Meghbela Broadband is set to rollout voice, video, data and bundled subscription to 9 OTT apps through FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) in West Bengal competing with the likes of Jio Fiber, Airtel Home and Tata Sky.
“We have partnered with the leading OTT platforms Amazon Prime, Zee5, Hungama, Hubhopper, ShemarooMe, Gaana along with Bengali players like Hoichoi, Addatimes and Bongo TV to provide premium content subscriptions,” Tapabrata Mukherjee, co-founder and director, Meghbela Broadband told ET.
The Kolkata-based internet service provider (ISP) which operates across 70 cities in India with a subscriber base of 150,000 users is targeting to add another 200,000 users (including 50,000 Android Box users) within a year of launch and expand the services outside Bengal.
“The leading telcos have been in the fixed broadband business for very long and even with the launch of the latest entrant in the telecom space, we haven’t faced any competitive heat from any of these players because of the personalised service experience we give to the end customer,” Mukherjee said.
He added that Meghbela’s pricing is the least among all players where the bundled offers are cheaper by almost Rs 500.
“We also do not have a fixed usage policy, our data offering is unlimited and above all the experience is going to be ad-free,” he added.
Mukherjee said that he is bullish on the opportunity that the PM-WANI (Prime Minister WiFi Access Network Interface) scheme provides to ISPs as PDOs (public data offices) who wish to set up public Wi-fi hotspots will ultimately require resources from ISPs like Meghbela.
Meghbela utilises the unlicensed 2.4 Ghz and 5.8 Ghz spectrum bands to provide wireless services such as voice, video and data.
The company has also partnered with Google to launch the Android Box powered by Google Assistant to convert a regular TV set into a Smart TV for providing access to OTT content and 150 live TV channels.
It is also launching the Meghbela app for users who wish to stream content on their smartphones and don’t need the Android Box.
Meghbela which has a presence across 16 states in India has so far laid 10,000 kilometers of over-head fiber network and 2000 kilometers of underground optic-fiber-cable. It serves close to 2000 corporate clients and call centres.
