STPI plans to have 25 centres of excellence in emerging technologies


BENGALURU: The Software and Technology Parks of India (STPI) plans to set up 25 centres of excellence across the country in different emerging technology areas.


The government is planning to support 1500 startups through these CoEs and has created a budget of Rs 400 crore, said Omkar Rai, Director General, STPI, at the CII Innovation Summit.


“We have been able to start 12 centres of excellence across the country, we are going to launch very soon six more CoEs and the overall planning that we have is that we will be reaching to 25 CoEs pan India, the entire country,” said Rai.


He added that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is working to create a technology startup ecosystem to promote the development of software products in the country.


“We have already created 14 labs across the country to meet the laboratory requirement. The domains include fintech, autonomous, connected electric and shared vehicle, internet of things, artificial intelligence, gaming, animation, medical technology, blockchain, smart-agri,” said Rai, adding that the STPI has been working with 60 partners from the industry.


He added that due to the pandemic industry sectors have to be resilient and the IT services industry has been able to show its resilience.
