Nike announced the pending release of the Air Jordan 12 in an “Indigo” colorway. Hype began to grow around speculation of the announcement, but eager anticipation set in when the release date was pushed back. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this has become a common occurrence with all of the major sneaker brands. If you haven’t heard about the new release here are 10 cool facts about the Air Jordan 12 Indigo that you didn’t know.
1. The Air Jordan 12 Indigo goes by two names
Don’t be confused if you hear about the Air Jordan 12 in “Stone Blue” as well as “Indigo.” The two names of the colorway are currently interchangeable but they are very much the same shoe. It’s because of the color scheme that uses a combination of Stone Blue, Legend Blue, and Obsidian.
2. The design is new for 2020
The Air Jordan 12 Indigo is a sneaker that has a unique design. The upper is stitched with curved ribs that give it a quilted look. It’s definitely an aggressive look. The Indigo blue meets the midsole with a continuation of the stitching design into the bottom portion of the shoe. This is a new design that we’ve not seen before. It almost makes the sneaker look sculpted.
3. The accents are perfect contrasts
We love the way that the Air Jordan 12 Indigo sneakers are presented in a Stone Blue color with a variety of small accents that add to the beauty of its personality. Silver metal upper eyelets have been stitched into white leather overlays for a really cool effect that helps to break up the massive amount of blue material in the upper. It balances out the theme nicely.
4. There is a sentiment attached to the Air Jordan 12 Indigo shoes
We learned that the Jordan Brand has included a card along with each new pair of the Air Jordan 12 Indigo sneakers. It reads “The Beauty of Imperfection, Fades to Perfection.” This is a new twist for AJ enthusiasts who have been anticipating the release of this new and slightly novel colorway.
5. There is a story behind the Indigo name
If you’re wondering what the card with the statement about imperfection is all about, we have the answer. Nike used Indigo dye to create unique coloring for the upper of this shoe. The use of Indigo dye goes back over 6,000 years. It’s been used for thousands of years with the full knowledge that there are never two pieces that emerge to be identical. This is the reason why it has been noted that there may appear to be imperfections in the shoes but they are really quite intentional. The brand is giving consumers a heads up that this is likely to be the case.
6. The release date is a month out
In case you’re wondering when the Air Jordan 12 Indigo sneakers will be available, you still have time to plan. According to the brand, they’re slated to be delivered to retailers for sale on August 22, 2020. They’ll be available at Nike.com, and at selected retailers. Not every shoe store will carry them so you’ll have to do the research in advance to make sure that you are able to secure your order.
7. Hype is building
The original release date that was set for the Air Jordan 12 Indigo sneakers was August 8, 2020. It’s been rolled back by two weeks which has been a bit disappointing for some. We’ve learned by now that the delay in delivery is going to build even more hype and tension for sneaker enthusiasts who are anxious to get their hands on a pair of the new colorway. What this means is that on the date of the release, these sneakers are going to move out fast. You’ll need to be on your game if you want to get a pair at the manufacturer’s suggested retail selling price. As supplies begin to dwindle, the cost goes up as if by magic. If you’re among the first to buy them from Nike or a comparable retailer, the cost is set at $120 per pair for adult sizes.
8. Premium materials create a high-quality basketball shoe
Nike spared no expense when it came to the materials used in the creation of the new Air Jordan 12 Indigos. Most of the uppers are made out of a soft material called nubuck. This helps the sneaker to provide support while allowing for flexibility in all the right places. The stitching is intense and it shows that a great deal of time and effort has been put into the creation of each shoe produced. This justifies the price tag of $190.
9. The Air Jordan 12 Indigo offers the same traction and control
What we love perhaps the most about the Air Jordan 12 line of sneakers, aside from the cool aesthetics, is the control that it grants. The outsole is crafted with grippy rubber material and a traction pattern that keeps your feet firmly planted where you set them down. They’re great for making slides and other kinds of precision moves. You can stop on a dime, or spin to make a rotational or pivotal move with ease. When you flip the sneakers over to look at the tread design the shoe is almost as attractive upside down as it is when upright. It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes them so popular.
10. The Jumpman is present
Nike didn’t forget to identify the Air Jordan 12 Indigo as a basketball sneaker. The Jumpman is presented in blue at the back of the heel on the pull tab. We see him again on the outer sole at the bottom of the sneaker. To make sure that there is no doubt, Nike also imprinted the term Jumpman along the sides of the midsole.
