Amway announces roll-out of women entrepreneurship project

NEW DELHI: Direct selling company Amway on Tuesday announced the launch of a programme called nari shakti, which it said was aimed at women entrepreneurship and facilitating ownership and operation of their own businesses.

Amway chief executive Anshu Budhraja said in a statement: “The current health crisis has increased the uptake of flexible roles in the gig economy ecosystem due to the looming uncertainty on the job front.” The maker of Nutrilite supplements and Artistry skin-care said over 60% of its direct sellers are women now.

“The select women entrepreneurs will be mentored by key executives. The project lays emphasis on social selling and highlights the accelerated adoption of the digital medium and move beyond traditional ways of direct selling,” the company said.

Amway said last month its home delivery business has increased 200% over the past six months, adding that it will invest Rs 30 crore for supply chain and automation to fuel its home delivery and logistics network. The company said it expects the trend on online shopping to continue and forecasted online orders to reach over five-six lakh per month by year-end.

The India unit of the US$ 8.4 billion Michigan-headquartered Amway said it is reporting over 2.8 lakh home deliveries, which is roughly 70%-80% of its overall sales, compared to one lakh home deliveries before March this year.
