It’s important to verify information collected about crime rates, so we compared two ratings sites to find the most accurate reporting information.

Before we went with these assumptions we did our research to discover that the overall crime rates in these cities are in fact not the lowest, and therefore do not meet our criteria. Gramercy for example, had a crime rate 1 in 31 chance of becoming the victim of a crime. The violent crime rates in this city when compared with the national average are 38% higher. We decided to go with the data supplied by the neighborhood precincts in NYC over those supplied by the data provided by other sources dealing with security systems for sale to the public.
This is the ranking in accordance with Forest Hills/Rego Park having the lowest number of crimes in a 12 month period with Morris Park/Pelham Gardens/Bronxwood neighborhoods also having comparably low crime rates with the rest of the state, but still the highest on our list of the safest places to live in New York City.
10. Morris Park/Pelham Gardens/Bronxwood
Rate of crimes committed: 11 per 1,000 residents. According to information supplied by the 49th NYPD precinct, The Morris Park neighborhood saw just 11 crimes committed per 1,000 residents living in the area for the 2019-20 reporting year. This is a low figure that tells us it’s a relatively safe neighborhood to make your home. In Morris Park, the rent is a bit steep with a median figure of $1,837 per month.
9. Gravesend/Beshonhurst/Bath Beach
Rate of crimes committed: 9 per 1,000 residents. This is an area that saw a total of 9 crimes committed for every 1,000 persons for the 2019-20 reporting year. 8. Bayside/Little Neck/Oakland Gardens
Rate of crimes committed: 9 per 1,000 residents. This area of New York City saw 9 crimes committed per 1,000 residents for the 2019-20 year. The 111th NYC precinct patrols and provides law enforcement for the area. The median cost of rent in this area is $2,100 per month, suggesting that it is a more affluent area.
7. Lincoln Square/Upper West Side
Rate of crimes committed: 9-10 in 1,000 residents. This neighborhood fared a little better on the crime rate for the 2019-2020 year. The area is served by both the 20th and 24th NYPD precincts who reported between 9 to 10 crimes per 1,000 residents were committed. The cost of living is quite a bit higher in Lincoln Square at a median price of $2,900 per month, in a more affluent and desirable part of the city.
6. Bay Ridge
Rate of crimes committed: 7 per 1,000 residents. Bay ridge is listed as the 6th safest neighborhood with just 7 crimes committed per 1,000 persons living there for 2019-2020. The 68th NYPD precinct serves this area and supplied the data. The median rent is $1,850 per month, making it one of the more affordable areas in the city.
5. Throgs Neck/Pelham Bay
Rate of crimes committed: 5 per 1,000 residents. This neighborhood has a remarkably low crime rate of just 5 crimes committed per 1,000 residents for the 2019-20 reporting year. The 45th NYPD precinct serves the neighborhood. The median rent in Throgs Neck is $2,060 per month with Pelham Bay’s median at $1,891 per month.
4. Woodhaven/Richmond Hill

The median rent in Borough Park is $1,978 per year, making it one of the more affordable neighborhoods to live in.
1. Forest Hills/Rego Park
Forest Hills and Rego Park are ranked as being the safest neighborhoods to live in the Queens area. The crime rate for 1,000 people living there was just 2 for 2019 through 2020. This was reported by the 112th NYPD precinct overseeing law enforcement services in these neighborhoods.
