For 2020, the BMW S 1000XR has received some updates which have those that are loyal to the brand pleased with the opportunity for an upgrade to a bike that is already high performing. 1. The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is an aggressive racer
The S 1000 XR was designed with speed in mind and this characteristic has been carried to the aesthetics. thte character of the bike features a sporty racing red color with white aluminum metallic matte and white aluminum contrast on the sides. The tail is made short to give a nod to the sport bikes of yesteryear. The front fairing as well as the lighting system have been given a distinct sharp edged definition along with striking beading for an aggressive appearance.
2. It’s loaded with conveninece features
The S 1000 XR is equipped with handlebars tht are placed for maximum comfort which indicates that it’s going to be a pleasure to take this bike out for long-distance rides. The seat can be positioned for long-distance travel and the fairing has received an upgrade in aerodynamics to protect you better from the elements, driving noises, and the cold. This bike has improved dynamics because of its lower weight. In compariosn with previous editions o the S 1000 XR, even when the bike is fully equipped it is 22 pounds lighter than the others. 4. The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is a second generation bike
BMW Motorrad produced the first edition of the S 1000 XR in 2015. This is the fifth year of production for the road bike as an adventure GT in a four cylinder that was celebrated for its agility. The 2020 edition marks the beginning of the second generation of the motorcycle line. To commemorate the event the new model year has received a new aesthetic, engine, and chassis.
5. The engine has evolved
When looking at what’s new for the S 1000 XR the first thing to note is the S 1000 inline four engine. Some tweaks have been made to bring it into compliance with the updated standards for Euro 5 emissions. An increase in torque curve from 3,000 rpm upwards enhances drivability and flexibility with a higher compression ratio with a revised lift ShiftCam system to improve peak torque to 84 lb-ft at 9,250 rpm. The engine cranks 162 horsepower at 11,000 rpm. The engine is 11 pounds lighter yet a half inch slimmer and slightly shorter and more compact.
6. The frame and engine structure is revised
The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR features a revised engine for compatibility with the new frame structure. A reduced sterering axis caster is a feature of the new chassis moving from 25.5 degrees to 24.9 degrees with a trail reduction from 117 to 116 mm with a longer wheelbase increased to 61.1 inches.
7. It gets a new instrument cluster
The new 2020 BMW S 1000 XR has an aggressive styling in the adventure GT format including a front beak for a new look for the second generation. It has received a new instrument cluster tht features an ample 6.5 inch TFT screen with a total of four screen displays that are highly legible to give you the information that you need the most when you need it. I’ts bright and clear and comes as standard equipment.
8. The transmission is also revised
Another notable update for the 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is the revised transmission. It is a six speed that has received new gear ratios that lengthe rations for the fourth, fifth, and sixth gears. The purpose of this update was to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption and noise when riding. The current estimated fuel consumpion is set at 44 mpg. These are two very useful and practical upgrades that should set well with fans of the model.
9. The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR offers four riding modes
To enhance your comfort and enjoyment of the S 1000 XR, BMW has designed the bike with a choice of four riding modes. The Rain mode shifts the focus to traction for wet and slippery conditions. You can also conveniently switch to the other three riding modes to further enhance comfort and safety. These include the Road option, Dynamic, and Dynamic Pro modes.Road and dynamic modes are suspension modes as a part of the electronic suspension known as the Electronic Suspension Adjustment that comes standard on the bike.
10. The new S 1000 XR is the first to get Dynamic Brake Control
The 2020 second generation of the S 1000 XR will be the first motorcycle in the line to receive Dynamic Brake Control. This system ensures that the brakes work in cooperation with the engine to aid in the control of unwanted acceleration by intervening in the engine control. It reduces torque during braking to direct full braking power to the rear wheel. It not only shortens the braking distance, but it also grants greater stability to the motorcycle. For good measure BMW has also added a new engine drag torque control called MSR. It’s a new technology that prevents slippage of the rear wheel under downshifting or abrupt throttle inputs.
